Contemporary Irish Artist Paula McGurdy creates paintings that are layered with mixed media drawings. Her work is informed by childhood, transience & belonging. She received her BA in Fine Art Drawing at University of the Arts, London, where she lived and worked for several years. Since then she has been finding her own unique way of representing journeys, memories and conversations, which means that her artworks are instantly recognisable.
Her current work involves layered painting with drawings on mixed media. Having returned to Ireland a couple of years ago after living in London for over 10 years, there was quite a substantial shift in her work, in terms of use of colour and paint. This latest series of work has been quite a cathartic process and is a reflection on the change of landscape, a sense of wandering, transience and belonging. She currently lives in Dublin, Ireland with her husband, and two young children.
