Infintiy & Beyond

Yayoi Kusama is currently showing at Victoria Miro, she is known for her obsessively repeated forms, dots & phallic like structures. I arrived at the gallery not knowing she was showing there, so was very pleased when I discovered upon entering that she was indeed.

In the centre of the gallery stood the Infinity Mirrored Room, which is a free standing hexagonal box surrounded by mirrors with 2 windows inviting you to look into. Inside awaits a treat for the eyes and senses. Inside mirrors face each other to produce an infinite number of reflections & lining the floor flashing lights change in colour & sequence. It could be described as a light show. It is quite disorientating and really does seem to go on for infinity & beyond to quote Buzz Light Year.

Upstairs you are welcomed with giant polka dot inflatable forms that look like massive...huge...giant yellow beach balls with black dots. Much to my disappointment it is not interactive... I wanted to roll & kick them around...boo! There is another room which is lit with florescent lighting, everything in the room is covered with multi coloured dots. The whole exhibition was fun & invites the viewer to immerse themselves in all aspects of the work.
